Bloomberg News has fired a reporter for violating an embargo on distributing news about the release of American prisoners.
Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait made the announcement in a memo sent to staff.
Details of the incident are provided in a CNN article.
He wrote that the report could jeopardize the agreed exchange process.
Moreover, releasing an article prematurely is a violation of editorial standards.
Micklethwait stressed that the Bloomberg report was fortunately not of great importance, but could have jeopardized the agreed exchange.
He also said disciplinary action had been taken against other employees.
Breaking the embargo
Bloomberg violated its news embargo last week.
In particular, the talks involved the release of several American prisoners from Russia, including reporter Evan Gershkovich.
In the memo, Micklethwait stressed: "The publication's article announcing Gershkovich's release was published prematurely."
The report could have derailed the agreed exchange of American prisoners.
