Armed attack on chief mufti in Tajikistan's capital

A religious leader of Tajikistan was attacked in the main mosque of Dushanbe.

The attacker's target was 61-year-old Saidmukarram Abdulkodirzoda.

Details were reported on Wednesday, September 11, on the website of the republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The incident occurred after evening prayers in the central mosque of the capital of Tajikistan.

One of the citizens attempted to stab the mufti with a knife. As a result, he managed to inflict a minor wound on the spiritual leader.

The victim received medical assistance at the scene. After doctors were convinced that the priest's life was not in danger, he was sent home.

The attacker was soon detained. He was overpowered by law enforcement officers who were on duty on the territory of the mosque.

The name of the attacker has not been disclosed. It is noted that he acted out of hooligan motives.

Investigators are currently working with him. The circumstances of the incident are being established, witnesses are being questioned.
