A French criminal lawyer has revealed how long Pavel Durov could actually be sentenced to.
The businessman will not be given more than 10 years in prison due to French legislation.
This comment was given to RIA Novosti by expert David Libeskind.
A criminal defense attorney recalled the differences between American and French law. While the United States allows for the possibility of adding up sentences for all convictions, in France, a person can only be convicted for one offense.
The most serious crime Durov is charged with is drug trafficking as part of an organized group. The maximum sentence for this crime in France is 10 years in prison.
Therefore, if Durov is convicted, he faces a prison sentence of no more than 10 years.
It is noted that the founder of Telegram is currently at large. The businessman was released the day before on bail of 5 million euros.
He is required to remain in France and must report to the police twice a week.
