Record donations from Americans to Kamala Harris' campaign reported.
The US Democratic Party has raised over $55 million since Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
This is a record amount that was raised in less than a day in 2024, Politico reports.
The fundraising was conducted on the small donor platform ActBlue.
In the first 5 hours after the start of the election campaign, $27.5 million was raised. Then the amount of donations grew to $46.7 million.
In less than a day, Americans raised a record $55 million.
The money will be allocated to Kamala Harris's campaign, which has just started. Some of the funds will be used to help other Democrats run for office.
The surge in cash flow reflects Democratic intent that has not been evident on this track so far, sources said.
The collection started when Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the race.
