A group of 40 monkeys have escaped from the Alpha Genesis Primate research facility in South Carolina.
The animals escaped from the property on Castle Hall Road, which is owned by a private company.
Traps have been set up around the area and police are currently on scene, NBC News reports.
The company from which the primates escaped is conducting clinical trials to treat brain diseases.
The Alpha Genesis Primate Center breeds monkeys for medical testing and research.
Police have set up traps and thermal imaging cameras in the area to detect the animals.
Residents of nearby areas are advised to keep doors and windows closed to prevent primates from entering their homes.
Residents were also warned against trying to catch the animals themselves. If they spot monkeys, residents are advised to call 911.
Law enforcement continues to search for the escaped primates. At this time, no additional information has been received from Alpha Genesis.
