22 people linked to doctors' case arrested in Istanbul.
The accused organized a criminal scheme in private clinics, as a result of which more than 20 newborns died.
According to Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc, in X (formerly Twitter, banned in Russia), babies died due to inhumane and inappropriate conditions.
As part of the criminal case, 22 of the 47 suspects were detained.
The investigation began on May 21, 2023, following complaints of child deaths in several private healthcare facilities.
It turned out that the conditions of assistance were inhumane.
According to the indictment, the group members forced the parents of infants to seek treatment at private clinics.
In medical institutions, babies were kept longer than the prescribed period in poor conditions. Doctors received 3-4 times more money than in state hospitals.
Investigators are looking into the deaths of at least 21 babies.
The prosecution believes that the deaths of the newborns were caused by infections in the wards, a shortage of doctors and the sale of drugs by the hospital.
Istanbul prosecutors are seeking prison terms ranging from 10 to 589 years for the defendants.
Dozens of people are suspected in the case, including the head of an organized crime group who worked as a pediatrician at a hospital in the Esenyurt district.
