01.07.2024 00:05

Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the early Christian martyrs Leontius, Hypatius and Theodulus.

People call this celebration Yarilin Day.

In Rus', on this day it was customary to have fun so that prosperity and luck would never leave the house.

In addition, it was necessary to clean up on this day in order to receive guests later.

Three great martyrs, bearing the names Leontius, Hypatius and Theodulus of Tripoli, lived in the first century after the birth of Christ.

In their youth, these individuals served as Roman soldiers, but when one of them became imbued with the ideals of Christianity, all three future saints were baptized.

Later, Leonty, Hypatius and Theodulus of Tripoli began to preach Christianity and fight heresy. They convinced many pagans to accept baptism and renounce their former idols.

One day, when the fame of the preachers had spread widely, the emperor who was ruling at that time found them and captured them, after which, under torture, he tried to convince them to accept paganism.

Leonty, Hypatius and Theodulus of Tripoli refused to betray the faith, for which they were subsequently executed.

It was on July 1 that it was considered a grave sin to commit ungodly acts, namely, to complain about life. Otherwise, according to beliefs, a period of significant deprivation and poverty, as well as failures in personal life, would come.
