Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk.
Among the people, this celebration is called Tikhon's Day.
In Rus', on this day it was customary to attend church services and glorify the sacred images of the Holy Mother of God.
In addition, it was considered necessary to walk around the house and area with the icon to drive away evil spirits.
Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk, who received the name Timofey from birth, was born in the first half of the 18th century AD. He was born in the Novgorod province.
Since childhood, Timothy, who had never seen any wealth or privileges, but only poverty, decided to become a believing preacher.
For this reason, the future saint accepted baptism and, accordingly, the new name Tikhon.
At the age of thirty-four, the preacher headed the seminary and simultaneously became the abbot of the monastery. He was subsequently ordained bishop of numerous monasteries.
Tikhon was an ardent supporter of the construction of sacred temples. He did not skimp on spending his own funds, including spiritual ones, on this.
For such devotion to religion, the Lord rewarded Tikhon with the gift of miracles and the ability to predict the future.
