Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the icon of the prophet Samuel.
Among the people, this celebration is called the Day of the Prophet Samuel.
In Rus', on this day it was customary to continue the after-feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, which lasts for eight days from the beginning of the celebration itself.
Prophet Samuel lived more than a thousand years before the birth of Jesus Christ. He was born into a family of God-pleasing believers, and it is believed that his parents asked God for him.
When Samuel was three years old, his mother, grateful to the Lord for such a valuable gift in the form of a child, took the child to the high priest Elijah, where she left him.
From his teacher Samuel inherited the love for the Lord. He prayed a lot and already at the age of twelve he had his first divine vision.
Thus, in particular, the Lord predicted the fall of punishment on the house of Elijah if he could not curb his sons, mired in impure thoughts.
Ultimately, the prophecy came true. The high priest died, and his disciple took his place and began to spread the divine teachings.
