Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the martyr Luppus of Thessalonica.

Among the people, this celebration is called the Day of Luppus of Thessalonica.

In Rus', it was customary to pick lingonberries on this day, since a lot of these berries ripened in the forest and on the plot.

Luppus of Thessalonica served a rich man in Thessalonica, which was once a Greek city. The future saint lived in the 3rd century AD.

Lupp's master was Saint Demetrius of Thessalonica, who later died as a martyr.

It was the servant of Demetrius of Thessaloniki who managed to secretly hide his cloak-tunic and imperial ring. These things later endowed Lupp with the power to work miracles.

The reason was that Lupp himself was very pure in soul and thoughts. Having acquired the gift of performing miracles, he began to help people regardless of their social status.

Once, with only his prayers, Lupp destroyed a pagan temple. The pagan emperor Maximilian was very angry at this act of the believer.

The governor ordered the saint to be arrested and tortured. Lupp, who was a devout Christian at heart, accepted death with calm and courage.
