Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the great martyr Lawrence of Rome.

Among the people, this celebration is called Laurentian Day.

In Rus', on this day it was customary to ensure that the rains did not flood the beds and thus spoil the harvest.

Laurentius of Rome, who was an archdeacon, lived in Rome during the reign of the Emperor Valerian.

The great martyr is primarily known for having suffered for the faith together with Pope Sixtus, as well as with the deacons Felicissimus and Agapitus and the warrior Romanus.

When the above-mentioned believers were thrown into prison, the church leadership ordered that the property of the prisoners be handed over to Laurentiy.

The preacher, in turn, was supposed to sell the things of the captured clergy, but the imperial guards seized him and demanded that he give all the money to her.

Despite terrible torture, Laurentiy did not renounce the Lord, and he also refused to give up the treasures of the believing captives.

In the end, the believer died under torture, but even while dying, he did not renounce his religious beliefs.
