The large amount of snowfall foreshadowed a flood in the spring.
If the water bodies are covered with ice, there will be no warming until spring.
And the mud on the roads meant that the warm weather would last until midwinter.
What else to pay attention to
On this day, rich people gave chickens and other poultry to their relatives and friends.
Feeding the chickens was especially important, as they were believed to bring good luck if not killed.
