Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian.
Among the people, this celebration is called Cosmas and Damian.
In Rus', on this day it was customary to pray and visit churches in order to thus come into contact with the Higher Powers.
In addition, it was necessary to start haymaking – there was a favorable period for this.
The brothers Cosmas and Damian were born in the 3rd century AD. Their homeland was the city of Rome.
Both future saints trained to become doctors. Their choice of profession was mainly influenced by the death of their common father, who died of an unknown disease.
The widowed mother of Cosmas and Damian devoted herself entirely to her sons, raising them to be pious, meek Christians, devoted to God.
The future saints never took money for their work and treated both noble gentlemen and ordinary, simple people with equal meticulousness.
Cosmas and Damian fell victim to attacks by the pagan imperial guard. The soldiers, subjects of the idolatrous ruler, seized the saints and killed them in the mountains, throwing their bodies into the river.
