Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the Novgorod Miracle Worker Anthony the Roman.

Among the people, this celebration is called the Day of Anthony the Wonderworker.

In Rus', on this day it was customary not to be lazy, but to clean the house or harvest.

Anthony was born in Rome in the 11th century AD. It was because of his origin that he received the nickname Roman.

The future saint was left an orphan at an early age, but with a good inheritance, which, when he grew older, he distributed to the poor.

Anthony himself chose the path of religion. He was baptized and went to a monastery, where he later began to pray fervently.

During the period of persecution, the saint chose to settle on a rock by the seashore. However, according to legend, idolaters found him and threw him into a river near Novgorod.

However, Anthony surfaced and was subsequently able to rebuild the Monastery of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where he became abbot.
