Dmitry Simkin explained why high heels can be harmful for some women.
He noted that heels create increased stress on the feet and spine, which in turn leads to health problems.
Osteopath and head of his own clinic Dmitry Simkin listed the main risks in comments to Lenta.ru .
Foot deformation
With anterior flatfoot, when wearing heels, a load is placed on the front part and a “bump” is formed near the big toe.
Simkin recommends that women with flat feet choose shoes with a stable heel.
Load on the spine
High heels shift the body's center of gravity, causing strain in the lumbar and cervical regions.
This can lead to back pain and problems with the spinal discs.
Varicose veins and edema
High heels interfere with the normal functioning of the calf muscles, impede blood circulation, and lead to blood stagnation.
The doctor advises choosing stable heels up to 3–5 cm high to properly distribute the load.
