Cracking, popping, and grinding sounds can occur in the knees when moving in people of any age group.
For many people, knee crunching is not accompanied by pain, but the sounds make them give up on sports.
La Trobe University research fellow and physiotherapist Jamon Couch says that limited use of the knees wears them out even more, The New Daily reports.
The doctor noted that low-impact exercise can potentially harm joints if they are not used enough.
The coach said that knees need to be trained, even if they are affected by osteoarthritis.
He explained that exercise increases blood supply and metabolism, allowing synovial fluid to enter the cartilage in the joint.
Knees crunching
The doctor explained that the clicking sound in the knees occurs because air leaks into the soft tissues, getting into the area around the joint.
When you straighten and bend your knees, small bubbles form that can burst with a pop or crack.
A crunching or popping sound may be heard when tendons or ligaments become pinched over bony structures.
The coach added that creaking knees could be the result of torn cartilage or osteoarthritis.
