An infectious disease specialist explained what symptoms distinguish the variant of the flu virus that is currently dominant in Russia.
The comment was shared by the chief freelance specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health for infectious diseases, Vladimir Chulanov.
The current epidemic season is dominated by the influenza A (H1N1)pdm09 virus, TASS reports.
The doctor reported that this variant was first recorded in the country last season (2023–2024).
At that time, it occupied an insignificant share of the total number of cases.
But now the situation has completely changed. In the 2024-25 season, he is the dominant option.
Infection with this strain is accompanied by cough, weakness, sore throat, chills and fever.
In severe cases, the patient experiences shortness of breath, high fever, difficulty breathing, chest pain, bluish lips, and blood in the sputum.
In addition, the infected person may experience dizziness and loose stools.
This variant is most difficult for small children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases.
The basis of preventive measures is vaccination, the doctor summed up.
