Scientists have asked themselves why cancer is affecting younger and younger people every year.
The rejuvenation of a deadly disease has been linked to the acceleration of biological aging that has recently been observed in humans.
This conclusion was made by scientists from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (USA), who presented the results of their study on the website of the American Association for Cancer Research.
According to statistics, cancer is increasingly being diagnosed in people under 50 and even 30 years of age.
In this regard, scientists analyzed data from people aged 37 to 54 years.
It turned out that the incidence of cancer is directly related to the acceleration of biological aging processes, that is, when biological age differs, in particular, exceeds chronological age.
The association was strongest for a few specific cancers. Specifically, people with accelerated biological aging were 42%, 22%, and 36% more likely to be diagnosed with lung, stomach, and bowel cancer, respectively.
It was previously reported that scientists have found a way to predict cancer 10-20 years before it appears.
