Tuberculosis has once again been named the world's deadliest infectious disease.
According to WHO, 1.25 million people died from tuberculosis worldwide in 2023.
That's significantly more than the 320,000 COVID-19 deaths reported in the same period, according to the organization's report, IFLScience reports.
Last year, 10.8 million people fell ill with tuberculosis.
Major cases of infection have been reported in 30 countries.
The highest number of cases of tuberculosis have been detected in India, Indonesia, China, the Philippines and Pakistan.
The WHO reminded that tuberculosis can be deadly if left untreated.
Tuberculosis has once again become the most deadly infectious pathogen.
The disease was previously considered the most dangerous until COVID-19 temporarily surpassed it in 2020.
