Scientists have identified organs that do not play a key role in maintaining life.
A person is able to do without them, since the functions of these organs are partially taken over by other body systems.
Researchers have listed seven organs without which one can live relatively normally, writes The Conversation .
Appendix
The appendix is associated with digestion, but does not play a critical role in life.
When it becomes inflamed, it is often removed. People do not notice any changes in their lives.
Gallbladder
The gallbladder is removed when stones form. The body adapts by sending bile directly to the intestines.
One lung
A person can live with one lung, scientists say.
The other takes over the functions of the lost one, but requires avoiding heavy physical exertion.
Stomach
In severe cases, part of the stomach or the entire organ is removed.
The remaining sections of the gastrointestinal tract take over its functions. But you will need to follow a diet.
One kidney
One kidney completely compensates for the absence of the second if recommendations are followed.
Small intestine
When the small intestine is removed, most people recover well and do not notice any changes in their habits.
Reproductive organs
The testicles and ovaries are paired structures. Removing them does not shorten life expectancy.
