Lifestyle is a matter of habit.
The so-called ancient brain, the corpus striatum, is responsible for habits (aka automatic reactions). But the cerebral cortex, the new brain, wants to learn new things.
He understands that it is necessary to be healthy, lead a healthy lifestyle, not eat at night, go to bed on time, exercise regularly, says Tina Petrovskaya, partner of the "Docstarclub" academy, author and speaker of courses for doctors, general practitioner.
Only the limbic system is constantly pulling it back and transferring all our ideas about “I will now start leading a healthy lifestyle” not to an uncertain Monday, New Year and everyday tomorrow.
The good news is that our consciousness can control the cortex and motivate it to do a new action today. For this, the dopamine system is connected, which after each reward for a new action, forms a new habit.
Thus, gradually a person normalizes his lifestyle and from habits that lead to premature aging and the appearance of diseases associated with an unhealthy lifestyle (and these are the majority), new neural connections are formed that are responsible for new automatic reactions.
An important rule involves gradually introducing each new habit.
Don't just give up sweets on one Monday, stop eating your favorite burgers, start drinking enough water, do an hour-long workout and still manage to go to bed at 11:00 p.m., giving up scrolling social media for an hour, but implement each habit about once a week.
This way, the brain will not be stressed by the tasks that pile up at the moment, but will gradually adapt to the proposed new conditions.
