Swedish scientists from Uppsala University have stated that a significant lack of sleep in adults can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes.
It is emphasized that if a person does not have healthy sleep, it cannot be compensated for solely by healthy eating.
The experts published the results of their research in the scientific journal JAMA Network Open .
The article states, in particular: “If you sleep only 3-5 hours a day, you will have to face the consequences in the form of diabetes.”
Critical situation
Co-author of the work, somnologist Diana Noga, pointed out that even with a healthy diet and good habits, as well as lack of sleep, the risk of developing diabetes remains high.
It is stated that during the course of the study it became known that sleep lasting from 3 to 5 hours a day is extremely harmful for a person.
Experts urged: "It is important to sleep at least six hours a day, and then you will never have to deal with diabetes."
