You always want the agricultural crops planted in your garden to delight you with their healthy appearance and harvest.
However, from time to time, summer residents are faced with a disease due to which dark spots appear on tomato leaves.
Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, scientist agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , we figure out what causes this phenomenon.
Tomato diseases
Most often, tomato leaves turn black due to late blight, caused by the fungus Phytophthora. The tomato dries up, starting from the top, and after the leaves, the fruits begin to be covered with black spots.
If the disease is detected at an early stage, it can be treated with biological preparations. At a later stage, chemical fungicides are indispensable.
Another disease characterized by yellowish-brown, rapidly darkening spots on the leaves is caused by the fungus Cladosporium. Cladosporiosis, which it causes, is also controlled using biological preparations or fungicides.
Tomatoes can also be affected by alternaria, a disease caused by the pathogen Alternaria. It is characterized by the appearance of gray-brown spots first only on the lower leaves of tomatoes, and then on all parts of the plants.
Earlier we wrote about why tomato leaves turn yellow in a greenhouse.
