Sometimes slugs literally “take over” the entire garden, attacking plants in the process.

But there are effective methods that will help fight these pests.

Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about how to get rid of slugs.

Reasons for the appearance

Slugs love to feast on cabbage leaves, strawberries and lettuce leaves.

Moreover, there may be several reasons for their appearance. For example, acidic soil or an uncleaned area may contribute to this.

They may be attracted to scattered leaves or old crops.

Also, if no measures are taken, slugs can fill the entire garden.

How to solve the problem

Slugs don't like alkaline soil. Therefore, to combat them, you can add wood ash or lime to the soil.

These products will not only help reduce soil acidity, but will also have a positive effect on plants.

You can also use special preparations. For example, it could be "Slizneed" or "Groza".

What is important to consider

Before winter, slugs lay eggs, from which offspring emerge in the spring.

Their eggs are quite resilient and are not afraid of low temperatures.

Therefore, at the end of autumn it is advisable to dig up the soil, but it is better not to break up the lumps.

If you have poultry, you can let them out into the garden periodically. They will also help reduce the number of slugs.

Earlier, the expert explained that it can be planted in a place where zucchini used to grow.
