It often happens that grapes, for seemingly unknown reasons, begin to freeze every year.
It may seem like this is due to the wrong variety, but in reality the problem is much more complex.
Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained why grapes freeze every year and what to do about it.
According to the expert, there are three possible reasons to consider.
Lack of autumn feeding
It is extremely important to take care of grapes not only during the season, but also in the fall, when the crop is preparing for dormancy.
In the autumn, grapes should be fed with potassium sulfate and superphosphate.
Insufficient watering
It is important to remember that grapes need a sufficient amount of moisture to function normally.
The soil in which the crop grows should not be excessively dry. If necessary, it should be moistened.
Incorrect shelter
Grapes need to be covered during the winter. Otherwise, the vines will freeze and you will not see a good harvest.
Use dense but breathable spunboard. Trim the crop immediately before covering.
