Wood ash is an effective fertilizer for many plants.

However, in combination with certain other elements, it can ruin the harvest completely.

Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, scientist agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , we figure out what wood ash should never be mixed with.

What you shouldn't mix ash with

Wood ash is rich in nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and other nutrients. Therefore, it is not recommended to mix it with nitrogen-containing elements, among which the most common are the following:

  • lime;
  • ammophos;
  • ammonium nitrate;
  • ammonium sulfate.

A mixture of wood ash with some organic components is also dangerous. For example, chicken manure contains a lot of nitrogen, so it should not be mixed with ash.

The same applies to cow manure. It is noted that it is better to use them separately.
