It is no secret that the same crops cannot be planted in the same places year after year.
When forming beds, it is also necessary to take into account what plants previously grew in the place where another crop will be planted.
Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained what should not be planted after cucumbers.
What is better not to plant
Cucumbers can draw a lot of nutrients from the soil, depleting the soil.
Therefore, not all crops will be able to grow in the place where cucumbers were previously planted.
This applies in particular to zucchini and pumpkin.
These crops have similar soil fertility requirements, which can result in a shortage of essential micronutrients.
Against this background, plants will be more susceptible to various diseases.
For example, if there is a nitrogen deficiency, the leaves will turn yellow and the stems will become thin. But if there is a potassium deficiency, the fruits will be irregular in shape.
In addition, it is necessary to take into account that cucumbers can release harmful substances called colines into the soil.
They have a negative effect on the development and growth of pumpkin crops. Therefore, it is better not to plant melons and watermelons after cucumbers.
What can be planted
Cucumbers can only deplete the top layer of soil. Therefore, various root crops can be planted after them.
It could be beets, radishes, carrots or turnips.
You can also plant onions, garlic and parsley in this bed.
