Before planting plants on your property, it is important to find out about their compatibility.
After all, the yield and the overall condition of the plants may depend on this.
Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained which plants can be planted next to cherries.
Cherry and plum
The proximity of cherries to sweet cherries will have a positive effect on the yield of these trees.
The distance between their seedlings can be from five to eight meters.
It is important to pay attention to the varieties. You should not plant tall trees near dwarf ones.
In addition, plums can be planted near cherries. These plants require similar growing conditions.
They can also protect each other from various diseases.
But again, it is worth making sure that the distance between them is not less than five meters.
Grapes and elderberry
Cherry gets along well with grapes. They should be placed at least a meter apart.
It is important to prevent the creeping vine from enveloping the branches and trunk of the tree.
Cherry trees will benefit from being planted next to elderberries. This plant has a specific smell that can repel some pests, including cherry aphids.
Honeysuckle can also be planted near the cherry tree. This plant likes to grow in partial shade. It is best to place them at a distance of about two meters.
Earlier we told you what to put under a cherry tree if it doesn’t bear fruit well.
