The world of a summer resident is filled with myths and prejudices.

The chaotically collected experience of people, unconfirmed recommendations cause significant damage to the harvest, soil and become the reason for wasting energy on restoring the lost harvest.

The article will tell you about harmful myths you shouldn’t believe.

Drought-tolerant plants don't need to be watered

Many summer residents choose drought-resistant plants for the garden in order to reduce the time it takes to water them and, ultimately, having listened to this myth, get a meager harvest, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

The ability of plants to tolerate difficult dry conditions does not mean that they do not need water. This is especially true for young seedlings.

No matter how well the plant copes without water, the young plants will not be able to grow into healthy seedlings.

Used coffee is a simple way to reduce soil acidity

There are a number of crops that are unable to grow in an acidic environment. Therefore, gardeners are looking for accessible and simple ways to change the pH of the soil. One of the life hacks is considered to be used coffee grounds added to the soil. Coffee grounds actually have this ability, but there are a number of "buts":

• the grounds, being absorbed into the soil, remove nitrogen from it, which is essential for the development and growth of all crops;

• due to moisture, coffee quickly becomes moldy, attracting pests and all kinds of bacteria, which causes root system diseases to spread.

Clay soil requires sand as an ideal option for drainage.

Heavy soils containing clay require some work, as they are poor in oxygen and minerals.

Summer residents have long decided that sand should act as an assistant, explaining this by its structure and roughness of particles, permeability for moisture. But in reality, everything is getting even worse.

Clay, when mixed with sand, turns into something like liquid cement. Air and water pass through such a mass with the greatest difficulty.

Instead of sand, you need to choose regular compost, which will completely correct the problem in 2-3 seasons.

Compost does not cause harm, so it can be used without restrictions

Fertilizer without serious chemicals does not mean that it can be applied without control. It is necessary to take into account the elements it contains, monitor the quality of the pit, and add only organic matter to it.

Poor compost can kill plants, especially if a gardener applies it thoughtlessly in large quantities.

Banana peels are ideal fertilizer

Gardening advisers could not pass by banana peels and began to recommend them en masse as a potassium fertilizer.

Some recommend digging the skin into the beds, others insisting on water, others grinding it and mixing it with clean water when watering the plants.

It is worth noting that the peel of this fruit does contain potassium, which can nourish the plant. But there is another "but": during the process of peel decomposition, the bacteria that eat it draw nitrogen from the soil. The plants become stunted and weak.

Garden paint and putty are necessary for processing the cut of trees

Experienced gardeners talk about the rule of treating cuts with garden pitch without fail, telling stories about dead trees.

But this rule works 50/50. If the tree is weak, then after pruning it needs to be helped by covering the cut. This will protect the crop from infections and fungi.

A healthy plant with strong immunity, subjected to seasonal pruning, can cope with the cut and bacteria that appear in the place of exposed wood.

Existing myths in the life of a summer resident usually harm the harvest and the quality of the soil.

Being judicious about the information coming from different sources means successfully increasing the harvest and preserving it for a long time.
