Spring garlic is popular with summer residents because it is stored better than winter garlic.
There are three main methods of planting spring garlic, each good in its own way.
Expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about planting methods and gave three tricks.
Planting methods
Spring garlic can be planted in rows and holes. The first option is divided into two varieties - single-row and double-row.
In the case of the single-line option, the rows must be made at a distance of 20-25 cm.
The interval between the cloves is 9-10 cm. The planting material is deepened by approximately 3 cm. The count is made from the top of the clove.
With the two-row option, the width between rows is 30-35 cm. In each row, you need to make two “lines” (distance 10-12 cm).
The cloves are planted in a checkerboard pattern. The interval is also 9-10 cm.
Spring garlic is planted in holes at a distance of approximately 15-20 cm. Many summer residents speak positively about planting garlic between strawberry bushes.
Three tricks
It is worth paying attention to the predecessors of spring garlic. This crop grows well and gives an excellent harvest after pumpkins, legumes, cruciferous and cereals.
When choosing a planting method, you can not limit yourself to single-row or double-row rows. These options can be alternated. The plantings will be better ventilated and easier to process.
After planting, it would be a good idea to sprinkle the bed with a mixture of ash and tobacco dust. This will protect against pests and serve as fertilizer.
