Roses are a real decoration of any garden plot.
However, they require attention and careful care from gardeners.
Expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, scientist agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh will share her advice with you.
Spring pruning of roses
It is recommended to prune the bush from the end of February to mid-March. At this time, the plant is already in full swing producing buds.
Before pruning, you first need to get rid of dried leaves. At the same time, very dense bushes are thinned out, leaving only a few main stems.
Basic rules
- For pruning, the sharpest possible pruning shears are used, with which all roses are pruned, regardless of the type.
- Pruning should be done at an angle of 45 degrees, leaving a distance of approximately 5 mm above the bud.
- On adult roses, dead branches and short shoots are removed; on one-year-old roses, branches above the top, best-formed bud, located above the faded buds, are removed.
