Growing onions in a summer cottage or garden plot usually does not cause any problems.
However, there are methods that will allow you to do this even more effectively.
Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , we figure out how to plant onion sets and avoid the shoots from sprouting.
What determines the throwing of arrows
The size of the onion sets primarily influences the ejection of arrows. The smaller it is, the less likely it is that the onion will eject a seed.
However, for regions where extreme low temperatures are common, large varieties are more suitable: they have a higher survival rate.
How to plant
In the fall, it is necessary to add manure with organic remains to the future onion bed. This measure will provide a charge of nutrients until spring.
After planting the onions, it is necessary to water the bed with a solution of ammonia at the rate of 2 tablespoons per five-liter bucket.
This will give the bed the necessary dose of nitrogen so that the onion feathers will start growing immediately in the spring.
