Many flower growers like to water their flowers with the tea leaves left over from making the drink.
However, in reality, such feeding will harm the flowers rather than help them.
Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , we figure out what the danger of tea leaves is for flowers.
Harmful effects of tea leaves
Tea leaves contain many useful minerals and organic substances. So, in theory, such an additive can replace purchased fertilizers.
However, this is only in theory. In reality, tea contains a lot of tannins, which greatly increase the acidity of the soil.
This type of fertilizing will only have a positive effect on those plants that like acidic soils: cacti, azaleas, hydrangeas and ferns. It will only harm all the others.
In addition, tea is harmful for some other reasons:
- promotes the appearance of mold and mildew;
- infects indoor plants with parasites;
- disrupts the balance of nutrients (especially when it comes to teas with additives).
