Geranium pleases the eye with its bright flowers and aroma.

However, like any living creature, geranium needs proper care and nutrition.

But Anastasia Kovrizhnykh tells us how to use iodine to improve the growth and flowering of geraniums.

Why is iodine good for geraniums

Iodine is an essential trace element that plays a vital role in the normal functioning of the human thyroid gland.

It also affects metabolism, regulates body temperature and strengthens the immune system. But not only humans need iodine, but also plants. Especially geraniums, which often suffer from various diseases and pests.

Iodine promotes the activation of photosynthesis, improves the absorption of oxygen and carbon dioxide, stimulates the growth and development of plants, increases their resistance to stress, drought and cold.

In addition, iodine enhances the flowering of geranium, making its flowers more saturated and bright.

Iodine also helps fight fungal and bacterial infections, and repels certain pests such as aphids and spider mites.

How to use iodine for geraniums correctly

In order for iodine to benefit geranium and not harm it, certain rules for its use must be followed.

First, you need to choose the right concentration of the solution. Too strong a solution can burn the leaves and roots of the plant, and too weak will not give the desired effect. The optimal dose of iodine for geranium is 1-2 drops per liter of water.

Secondly, you need to observe the frequency and time of spraying or watering. It is best to do this once a month, in the spring and summer, when the geranium is actively growing and blooming.

Spraying or watering should be done in the morning or evening, when there is no direct sunlight that can cause burns.

Thirdly, you need to monitor the plant's reaction to iodine. If you notice that the geranium leaves have started to turn yellow, wither, or develop spots, this may be a sign of an excess of iodine. In this case, you need to stop using it and rinse the plant with clean water.

By using iodine to care for geraniums, you can enjoy their beauty and health.

But do not forget that iodine is not a panacea, and it will not replace other nutrients and plant maintenance conditions. Therefore, follow the watering, feeding, lighting and temperature regime, and your geranium will be grateful to you.
