Proper feeding of peonies during the growing season will lead to incredibly lush flowering in the summer.

Particular attention should be paid to plants in the spring. It is during this period that plantings need fertilizing.

Expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what will ensure lush flowering of peonies.

When is feeding needed?

Peonies grow well and bloom abundantly for a long time without replanting. But without thorough care, this will be difficult to achieve.

It is necessary to help the bushes bloom profusely from about the 3rd year of development. In addition to regular watering, weed removal and loosening, it is necessary to apply fertilizers.

Peony feeding scheme

The first feeding should be done after the snow melts. The emphasis is on nitrogen-potassium compounds: 10-15 g of nitrogen and 10-20 g of potassium per plant.

Nitrogen should be used more carefully. Flowering will be weak if too much of this component is added. The bushes will actively grow greenery, and the number of buds can be counted on the fingers.

The second feeding should be carried out during the budding period: nitrogen (10-15 g), phosphorus (15-20 g) and potassium (10-15 g).

The third feeding is done at the end, when the plants have finished flowering. In fact, this is an investment in the flowering of the next year.

1-2 weeks after flowering, add phosphorus (15-20 g) and potassium (10-15 g).
