Grapes are one of the most popular and delicious berries, loved by many gardeners.

However, growing grapes requires knowledge and care, as the plant is susceptible to various diseases and pests.

One of these problems is white spots on grape leaves, which can lead to the death of the plant and loss of the harvest. Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explains what these spots are and how to deal with them.

Causes of white spots

White spots on grape leaves can be caused by a variety of factors, but the most common are:

Powdery mildew

It is a fungal disease that affects the leaves, shoots and berries of grapes.

At the same time, white fluffy coatings appear on the leaves, which look like flour. Powdery mildew develops in high humidity and lack of light.

Leaf scorch

This is a physiological damage that occurs when leaves become overheated during hot weather.

In this case, white or brown spots appear on the leaves, which eventually dry out and fall off. Leaf burn most often occurs on the southern side of the bush.

Pest infestation

Some insects, such as aphids, mites, or scale insects, may feed on the sap of grape leaves and leave white spots or dots on them.

In this case, the leaves may become curved, turn yellow or fall off.

Ways to combat white spots

To get rid of white spots on grape leaves and preserve the harvest, you need to take the following measures:

1. Properly care for the grapes. Provide sufficient lighting, watering, fertilizing and pruning of the plant. Remove weeds and cultivate the soil.

2. Preventively spray grapes against fungal diseases. Use special preparations such as topaz, skor or chorus, observing the dosage and timing of treatment.

3. Fight pests at the first signs of their appearance. Use insecticides such as Actara, Confidor or Fitoverm, or folk remedies such as garlic or tobacco solution.

4. Remove and destroy affected parts of the plant. Cut off and burn leaves and shoots with white spots to prevent the spread of infection or pests.
