Garlic needs only this kind of care in spring, as soon as it sprouts in the beds: the harvest depends on it – remember, otherwise you’ll forget

Winter garlic sprouts in the beds immediately after the last snow melts.

Caring for the plant at this time largely determines what the harvest will be like in the new season.

To ensure good development of young shoots, you need to follow simple but effective rules for caring for garlic, said agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Spring care for garlic

Cleaning the shelter

After the snow melts, there may be pine and spruce coverings left on the beds, and they need to be removed so that the garlic can warm up over time.

If you don't do this, the garlic will rot and die. At the same time, it's useful to clear the bed of any debris and mulch left over from the fall.

Plant fertilizer

Timely fertilizing is an important condition for caring for garlic.

The plant requires adequate nutrition from the very beginning of the growing season. And after wintering, it will appreciate nitrogen fertilizers.

For the first fertilizer, you can choose urea. The solution is prepared as follows: ½ tbsp per 5 l of water. The beds are watered after the first leaves appear.

Weeding and loosening

For normal air circulation, it is useful to occasionally loosen the soil. This should first be done in April to a depth of 7 cm.

After 14 days, you can start weeding, removing weeds with roots.

Watering garlic

The watering regime for garlic should be adjusted, taking into account the soil condition and precipitation. Approximately 11 liters per square meter are needed once every 8-10 days.

Pest control

Use professional products depending on the problem you are facing on the site.
