Lichen and moss on trees may seem like a common occurrence in a garden.
Although both types of organisms do not cause harm to the garden, they actually need to be constantly removed.
Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, we figure out why this is necessary and when is the best time to carry out the treatment.
Why You Need to Get Rid of Moss and Lichen
Although parasites do not cause direct harm, their presence is still harmful to trees.
Mosses and lichens are an ideal refuge for insect pests. They also disrupt the respiration process of tree tissues and create conditions of high humidity, which ultimately contributes to the appearance of fungus.
When to remove moss and lichen
The treatment can be carried out both in spring and autumn. If you choose the spring period, then the work must be carried out before the buds open.
In the second case, the ideal period would be November, when the trees have already shed all their leaves and entered the winter dormancy phase.
To make it easier to get rid of the parasites, choose a cloudy day to carry out the work. When the moss and lichens are saturated with moisture, it will be much easier to remove them from the bark of trees.
