To grow a good harvest, you need to follow certain rules.
For example, several types of vegetables should never be planted where there was previously a bed of cucumbers.
Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , we find out for which crops cucumbers are a bad predecessor.
3 types of plants
Since the soil gradually becomes depleted from frequent use, cucumbers cannot be planted in the same place two years in a row.
However, the restriction does not apply only to them. Plants closely related to cucumbers are also banned.
In particular, it is not recommended to plant zucchini, melons and pumpkins in the same bed where cucumbers were. These plants extract the same nutrients from the soil as cucumbers.
You should also avoid planting cabbage and celery, as these plants love nitrogen-containing fertilizers and will therefore deplete the soil even more.
But you can plant undemanding plants. Cucumbers are good predecessors for carrots, onions, beets, radishes, tomatoes, corn, peas, and green manure plants.
It was previously reported what can and cannot be planted after onions the following year.
