If you have decided to plant colored currants on your garden plot, but do not know how to do everything correctly in order to get a rich harvest every year, then we recommend that you read some tips and recommendations on how to plant currants correctly and then take care of them.

Colored currant: how to plant correctly

So, colored currants are planted in the same way as black currants. The only thing that is important to consider is the time when you plan to plant, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

It is important to know that colored currants are much more capricious than black currants and take root somewhat worse.

It is best to start planting colored currants in the first half of September. Why? In this case, the plant will have a longer period of time before night frosts, which will have a positive effect on survival.

It is not recommended to plant colored currants in spring; this period is considered the most unfavorable.

Advice! In order for rooting to occur quickly, before planting, it is recommended to place the roots of the seedling in a special solution for two hours, for example, epin or root.

How to care for the soil where colored currants are planted

In order to ensure the most favorable conditions for the development of the root system, as well as good growth and fruiting of the bush, the soil should be loosened at least 4 times per season.

This should be done as follows: behind the crown of the bush, the loosening depth should not exceed 14 centimeters, and directly under the crown - 7 centimeters.

You should start loosening the soil immediately after rain or heavy watering.

In autumn or immediately after harvesting, the soil should be dug up, but the resulting lumps should not be broken up. The soil under the bush should be leveled in the spring, as soon as the snow melts.

How to water bushes

One of the main advantages of colored currants is that they tolerate drought well, but this does not mean that the bushes do not need to be watered.

At the beginning of summer, during the period of growth of young shoots and filling of berries, the bushes should be watered often and abundantly. Also, the currant bush should be watered after the harvest has been completely collected.

Note that two buckets of water are enough for a young bush, and 3-4 buckets for an adult bush.

Before you start watering, you should dig a trench around the crown, into which water is poured, so that the watering will be done as efficiently as possible and all the water will go right under the root system. As soon as the soil dries out a little after watering, it needs to be loosened.

By following these simple recommendations, the currants planted by your own hands will delight you with a rich and good harvest every year.

Earlier we talked about the fact that there should be no dill in these beds.
