When planting black currants in the autumn, certain rules must be followed.
Otherwise, due to some mistakes, you may be left without a harvest.
Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained what is important to consider when replanting shrubs in the fall.
Landing time
The first thing to do is to choose the right time for planting. The bush should be planted before mid-October.
Otherwise, the seedling will not have time to take root, and the root system will not get stronger.
As a result, the plant may die. It is also necessary to take into account the climatic conditions in the region.
Incorrect landing
If you plant seedlings without deepening, you may be left without a harvest.
Therefore, the root collar must be buried into the soil at least ten centimeters deep.
Moreover, it is advisable to place the seedling at a slight angle.
Poorly prepared place
The hole for planting currants must be prepared in advance. It should also not be too small.
In addition, fertilizers and humus should be added to it. About five liters of humus will be needed per place.
Afterwards you need to add two tablespoons of superphosphate and a tablespoon of potassium sulfate.
Wrong neighbors
Currants will not grow well near raspberries or gooseberries. Blackberries will be a bad neighbor for them.
Also harmful for the bush is the proximity to fruit trees.
No pruning
After planting, the currant branches should be cut. About three sticks should remain above the soil surface.
This will stimulate the growth of shoots, which will have a positive effect on the yield.
