Asters are one of the easiest annuals to grow and one of the most undemanding in care.

However, even when growing them, you can make mistakes and deprive yourself of the beauty of future plants.

Expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, scientist agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh will tell you what mistakes can be made in growing asters and how to avoid them.

Common mistakes

Most often, novice gardeners most often encounter a number of common mistakes.

For example, the future seedlings might never sprout. This happens for the following reasons:

  • the shelf life of seeds, which already have a significantly lower chance of sprouting a year after packaging;
  • deepening of seeds during sowing, which do not need this at all and it is enough to simply sprinkle them with earth.

Problems with seedlings

Gardeners also encounter problems at the stage of growing seedlings.

Asters are susceptible to fungal diseases, so it is important not to overwater the seedlings and to use sterile soil for growing them.

If the plants stretch and fall over, the reason is most often that the seedlings were grown in too warm conditions with insufficient light.

It’s easy to combat this: you need to gradually lower the temperature and place the plants in a lighted area.

Seedlings grow best in hotbeds and greenhouses, where ideal conditions are created for them.
