An irresponsible employee is a nuisance that almost every employer can face.
The fact is that it is unrealistic to identify such a person at the interview stage: everyone is trying to make a good impression, to talk only about positive personal qualities.
Some people make special arrangements with their former boss so that he only gives them laudatory reviews and recommendations. And if the employee leaves with a scandal, then they unexpectedly prefer to "lose" the work record book.
Is it really impossible to insure your organization against such subordinates?
In principle, any HR specialist or manager should be a good psychologist.
His profession obliges him to do this: he constantly has to communicate with people, understand, and delve into the intricacies of employee relationships.
Of course, every newcomer is always perceived as a decent and honest person (otherwise it is simply impossible to work). This is what the sly ones take advantage of, dreaming only of a salary, but not wanting to fulfill their duties.
The following signs may indicate an irresponsible employee:
1. He regularly complains about his health. No, of course, the calculation does not take into account a truly sick person who has a working disability group. Or he initially informed the employer about his ailments.
It's just that some positions are relatively easy and allow for the possibility of being filled by an employee who is not entirely healthy.
There, the schedule is usually lenient and the requirements are minimal (hourly or part-time workers). But when in fact everything is great, but the subordinate whines and hints at sick leave, then this is a clear sign of shirking work.
The most interesting thing is that individuals of this type are thoughtful: they know that they will not be fired during sick leave. Therefore, they accept to "fall ill" periodically. And they are not accustomed to thinking about the fact that their workload falls as an additional burden on other people's shoulders. The main thing is their own comfort.
2. He does not try to delve into his duties. Usually, even lazy people in the first days try to pretend to be interested and active: they study computer programs, carefully review the employment contract, ask questions, and do not make decisions themselves.
But an irresponsible person does not consider it necessary to do so: he dreams only of how to idly slack off unnoticed. And so that none of his vigilant colleagues notice and report to the authorities.
This behavior is especially noticeable in offices where there is video surveillance or recording (in call centers, where operator conversations are automatically recorded and the number of hours spent working, processing, and not taking a break is calculated).
3. He is only interested in when the advance or salary will be issued. No, of course, this worries every employee, because he came first of all for money. No one will work for free or for an idea. But much depends on the very formulation of the question.
Usually a newbie asks this directly during an interview, and such interest is understandable.
But if he starts whining every day about "when will they pay", then something is clearly fishy. Perhaps this is what he is waiting for: to get the money and then not show up for work. Especially if it is something unofficial and not recorded in the work record.
Therefore, during the first meeting, it is necessary to be interested in the personality of the potential subordinate, and not just his professional qualities.
In the modern world, many people work remotely, so they won’t be left without money. And going to the office for some is simply a desire to get a relatively large sum in one go and then run away.
Earlier I talked about how to stop wasting time and start taking action.
