US Stops Funding Lugar Lab in Georgia

Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze announced that the United States has stopped funding the Lugar Laboratory in Georgia.

It is emphasized that, in particular, subsidies to the National Center for Disease Control of Georgia, to which Lugar belongs, were stopped.

Sarjveladze indicated: “We could be talking about two million lari, which is equivalent to 740 thousand dollars,” as reported by RIA Novosti .

The head of the Georgian Ministry of Health admitted that the amount may be different and needs to be recalculated.

Critical situation

At the end of July this year, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that the US would stop providing financial assistance to Georgia.

The reason is the adoption by official Tbilisi of a law on foreign agents.

The European Union also joined in the corresponding restraints against the Georgian side.

In particular, the EU stopped providing financial support to the Georgian Ministry of Defense.
