A tourist left millions in duty-free at a Turkish airport.

A traveler from the CIS made a $7.5 million (660 million rub.) purchase in a duty-free shop in one go.

In 2024, this tourist set a record, writes Turprom , citing Global Blue CEO Selim Sheikhun.

According to him, the traveler spent this amount on watches and jewelry. Sheikhun also said that the tourist was most likely an Azerbaijani.

Even the significant increase in prices for goods in Turkish duty-free shops, which has been recorded recently, did not scare off buyers.

Against this backdrop, many other tourists have cut back on their spending, making an average of 3.3 duty-free purchases during their trip to Turkey.

Russians (minus 41%) and natives of Kuwait (51%) significantly reduced their spending.

The majority of buyers are from the Middle East, Sheikhin said, with their share estimated at 37%.
