The head of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, Alexander Kozlov, spoke about the situation with mineral deposits.
The head of the department reported that large and easily discoverable sources are almost depleted.
Kozlov stated that because of this, Russian geologists are forced to move further into the Arctic zone and hard-to-reach regions of the Far East and Siberia, TASS reports.
According to him, these areas are associated with the further potential for mineral extraction in the Russian Federation.
The head of the Ministry of Natural Resources pointed out that there are still many territories that have not been explored and there is still no complete understanding of what resources these lands contain.
For example, the Far Eastern territories have been explored only by 35%. As for Siberia, geologists have studied 45%.
In the future, research in these areas will intensify even more, since the largest deposits have become significantly depleted.
