The Ministry of Internal Affairs' draft law on the right of investigators to freeze account transactions without a trial to combat fraudsters has been approved by the government commission.

Investigators and inquiry officers will be given the right to block bank accounts without a court order for up to ten days.

In this regard, the Central Bank believes that such a right should be limited, and experts warn of abuse, RBC emphasizes.

The proposal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, approved by the government commission, will allow investigators and inquiry officers to temporarily block accounts without a court order.

The bill was approved by the commission and will be considered at a meeting of the Russian government.

The Bank of Russia initially did not support the initiative, fearing that such an approach would expand access to banking secrecy.

The bill, as specified, is aimed at combating crimes on the Internet and promptly compensating damages to victims of fraudsters.
