The Federation Council of Russia approved a new law on depriving drivers of their licenses for 1.5 years for hidden license plates.

A driver who uses devices to hide a number plate may lose his license for up to 1.5 years.

A repeated violation will result in a penalty in the form of deprivation of rights for the same period, RIA Novosti writes.

According to Irina Rukavishnikova, First Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council, this law will help prevent road accidents.

Currently, drivers are fined 5,000 rubles or deprived of their license for up to three months for concealing their license number.

The driver also faces a warning or a fine of 500 rubles for dirty and illegible license plates.

Drivers who use devices to hide their license plates will be punished by having their licenses revoked and the devices confiscated.
