The State Duma has announced when the digital ruble will become commonplace for Russians.
The Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets, Anatoly Aksakov, shared his opinion.
The deputy indicated that three stages would be required to turn the digital ruble into a mass phenomenon, RIA Novosti reports.
The first stage will begin on September 1, 2024, when the pilot project will continue to be implemented with an increase in the number of participants.
According to Aksakov, it will take about 6 months to work out a broader version of using the digital ruble.
By the second half of 2025, the authorities will again increase the number of project participants. In 2026, the digital ruble will become a fairly widespread phenomenon, according to the head of the relevant State Duma committee.
What will happen from September 1st?
Earlier it became known that the pilot project for the introduction of the digital ruble would be expanded in Russia. The Central Bank reported that the number of participants would be increased from 600 to 9,000 individuals and from 22 to 1,200 legal entities.
Deputy Aksakov reported that another 20 banks have expressed a desire to take part in this experiment.
