A representative of the Central Bank has outlined the minimum threshold for a probable increase in the key rate in December.

The regulator is considering the possibility of raising the “key” by at least 1 percentage point.

Advisor to the Chairman of the Central Bank, Kirill Tremasov, spoke about this in a conversation with Interfax .

It has not yet been confirmed for sure that the Central Bank will raise the key rate at the end of 2024.

But if the economic situation forces this to be done, the key rate will be increased by at least 1%.

The Central Bank is not considering the possibility of increasing the “key” by 0.25% or 0.5%.

For example, this is what the regulator did in September 2021. Then the rate was increased from 6.5% to 6.75%.

Today we are talking about at least one percentage point. That is, if the negative scenario is realized, the regulator will increase the rate to at least 22%.

The next meeting of the Central Bank's board of directors on the key rate is scheduled for December 20, 2024.
